Whistling

Hearing aid whistling, also known as feedback, occurs when sound that is picked up by the microphone in the hearing aid is amplified and then leaks back into the microphone, creating a feedback loop. Here are some tips to help avoid hearing aid whistling:

  • Check the fit of your hearing aids: A good fit can help prevent sound from leaking out of your ears and into the microphone, which can cause feedback.
  • Use wax guards or filters: Wax guards or filters can help prevent earwax and other debris from clogging the hearing aid and causing feedback.
  • Change the direction of the hearing aid microphone: If the microphone is facing directly towards a source of sound, it can amplify the sound and cause feedback. Try repositioning the hearing aid so that the microphone points towards your cheek instead.
  • Avoid covering the hearing aid microphone: Covering the hearing aid microphone, such as with a hat or hair, can trap sound inside the hearing aid and cause feedback.
  • Avoid using hearing aids in noisy environments: If you're in a noisy environment, try to reduce the volume of your hearing aids to minimize the risk of feedback.

By following these tips, you can help avoid hearing aid whistling and ensure that you can enjoy clear sound from your hearing aids.

Feel itchy

If you experience itching while wearing a hearing aid, there are several steps you can take to relieve the discomfort:

  • Gradually increase wearing time: Start by wearing the hearing aid for short periods and gradually increase the time you wear it.
  • Clean the hearing aid and ear canal: Regular cleaning of the hearing aid and the ear canal can prevent itching caused by the buildup of wax or debris.
  • Use a skin protectant: You can apply a skin protectant, such as petroleum jelly, to the skin surrounding the ear canal to reduce itching.
  • Take a break from wearing the hearing aid: If itching persists, take a break from wearing the hearing aid and allow your skin to rest. If the itching continues after taking a break, consult your hearing health professional for further evaluation and treatment.

By following these steps, you can relieve itching and enjoy a comfortable wearing experience with your hearing aid.
